Tappale Dosa

Tappale Dosa is a unique healthy and tasty breakfast. It has 3 different Dal's as ingredients. This is dosa variety is very unique and this Dosa originated in Karnataka.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup rice
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp toor dal
  • 1 tbsp moong dal
  • 1½ tsp jeera cumin seeds
  • For seasoning:
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 3 to 4 chopped green chillies
  • curry leaves
  • 1¾ cup water
  • We also need a skillet.

Tools
Cast iron griddle (tava), Mixing bowls, preethi Mixer, Stainless steel utensils, Stainless Steel wok (bandle)

Instructions

  1. First grind rice,moong dal, chana dal, toor dal, and cumin seeds into a medium rava consistency.
To make upma:
  1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a dry pan.
  2. To this hot oil add mustard seeds, urad dal and green chillies. Fry it until urad dal turns golden brown color. Then add curry leaves.
  3. Now add the prepared rava and fry it until it becomes warm.
  4. To this add boiling water and stir it continuously.
  5. Cover it and let it cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.
  6. Stir in between to avoid burning .
  7. Then turn off and let it cool completely before preparing the dosa.
To make Dosa:
  1. Heat the greased skillet on medium heat.
  2. Divide the umpa into 6 equal parts.
  3. Take one part , make a ball and press it between your palm to make a shape like a cutlet.
  4. Make a little hole in the center.
  5. Put this onto the hot tava and put the oil around the dosa and in the center.
  6. Cover it and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until it turns golden brown and flip the dosa and it cook golden brown on the other side also.
  7. Repeat the same procedure for remaining upma.
  8. Enjoy the Tappale Dosa with Coconut chutney or mint Chutney.
