Bitter Gourd pickle | Hagala kayi uppinakayi | karela Pickle | Hagalkai Pickle |
This is a healthy, diabetes friendly, bitter gourd /hagalkayi pickle. Made with bitter gourd, green chilies, lemon juice and spices.
Meals without pickle/uppinakayi is something I cannot imagine. Mosaranna/curd rice with uppinakayi is just out of this world!
Nowadays we have so many options, buying from stores, buying from someone who makes at home. But nothing can beat the homemade pickle. We have varieties of pickle including lemon pickle, heralekai pickle, carrot pickle, and more….

This Dry jamun is another mouthwatering recipe I learned from my friend Vidya.  Dry jamun is as the name says jamun served without the sugar syrup. It is as tasty as traditional Jamuns with an additional awesome flavor from the Coconut.

First time I had this dry Jamun along with Bonda soup at my friends place. It was a rainy winter evening when we visited my friend Vidya’s house Hot bonda soup and cold dry jamun was waiting for us :) Yum… this was the best combination.

Chow chow kootu

Chayote kootu or chow chow kootu / Seeme Badane kayi kootu is one of the Iyengar’s recipe. I got this kootu recipe from my friend. It is more like our huLi or sambar but they call it Kootu.
Seeme Badane kayi or chow chow / chayote squash / Cho-Cho is a low calorie food and high in vitamin C. It is rich in flavonoid antioxidants which help to protect the body against inflammation caused by free radicals. It is good to incorporate different vegetables everyday in your diet.
Here is simple seeme badane kayi kootu recipe.
You should try this delicious  Chow chow chutney, Palya and seemebadanekai Sambar as well.

Cucumber chaat or southekayi chaat reminds me of my college days, we used buy from the churumuri stall near our college. Both tomato chaat and cucumber masale are our regular snack during our lunch time. Cucumber chaat is quick and easy, healthy snack.
Make this green chutney ahead of time, you can freeze it and use it when you need.
