Bevu Bella for Yugaadi (Neem and Jaggery mix )

March 30, 2014 By Raji 1 Comment

Happy Yugaadi to everyone! Yugadi is beginning of the new year for us.

Without consuming the mixture of Neem and Jaggery, our traditional Ugadi celebration is not complete in karnataka.

Bevu-Bella signifies that we have to give prominence to both Joy and sorrow, which is inevitable in everyone’s life path. In fact, the flavors are just that – bitter and sweet – resulting in “bittersweet”.

Every region has its own variation for preparing Bevu-Bella. This variation is traditionally followed from my mother-in-law with North-Karnataka influence.

For the recipe, please watch the video.

Vermicelli Payasam | Sevai Kheer recipe

January 27, 2014 By Raji 3 Comments

Shavige payasa

Shavige/sevai payasam is a simple yet tasty kheer. It is always a quick treat for unexpected guests and kids love it with ice cream. Sevai payasam, in the southern part of India, is almost synonymous with auspicious days. It is kind of a tradition in our house where sevai payasam is a must if it is a festival. And if it is a birthday, Gulab Jamun is a must :)
Our kids love the cold refrigerated Sevai payasam. Adding nutmeg or pistachios gives its own sweet and nutty aroma to the kheer.
