Churumuri | Mysore Churumuri with Greenchilli Masala

May 10, 2016 By Raji 9 Comments

Churumuri is the one of the popular roadside chats. Very easy to make! This recipe is one the varieties I use to eat. When ever we goto our Dr.Alikhan’s clinic or passing through Agrahara Circle, Mysore! we used to eat the Churumuri there at the Agrahara circle. There they use raw green chilli with a touch of garlic.I never knew it was garlic. I always used to wonder about this unique taste, because at our home my mother never used garlic, never brought home the garlic! Whenever we prepared the green churumuri at home, never used to get that street vendor churumuri taste, I even tried by adding the pudina/mint leaves no, not that taste. After coming to America, for medicinal benefits I started using this Garlic, one day while making this khara/green chutney for churumuri I added one clove of garlic, voila! I got the same taste!
That was the trade secret :)

Black Eyed Beans Usli/Sundal Recipe

October 18, 2015 By Raji Leave a Comment

It is always good to incorporate beans in our daily diet., especially if you have young ones at home. Beans are high in minerals and fiber along with protein and without the saturated fat found in some animal proteins.  It is believed that soaking the beans  before cooking helps to remove some of those indigestible sugars that cause flatulence and helps to cook then fast. Soaking long hours helps in digestion of the cooked beans. Beans are rich source of soluble fiber which can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Usli/sundals are one of the many ways we can use the beans. You can soak the beans and add to sambar, add handful of beans when you  soak the ingredients for Dose/dosai. It’s a simple side dish to add to a packed vegan lunch for some easy protein!

Masala Dalvada Recipe / Masala Ambode

October 7, 2015 By Raji Leave a Comment

Ambode/Dal vada are always a evergreen snack which are very appetizing and satisfying.  These are crunchy out side and soft inside snacks, perfect evening coffee or Tea/Chai companion. With the  coming winter in mind, this masala ambode/ masala dal vade is hot and spicy snack for the cold winter evenings. If you prepare the vadas as soon as you prepare the mix, it absorbs less oil, some what I call this snack a guilt free healthy treat. Kids love the vadais with tomato ketch up.

Cucumber Mango Sambar Recipe, How to Make Sambar Recipes

June 19, 2015 By Raji 1 Comment

Few years back when my co-sister said I am making mango cucumber sambar, I was really surprised. Sambar with ripe Mango? With green mango ok but with the ripe mango? She said taste it and then comment, yeah! she is absolutely right, it is awesome sambar with sour and sweet from the mango and unique flavor from the Mangalore variety cucumber/dosakai. Here in US we don't get variety mangos but if you are in India or where you can find these lovely small mangos you should try this Sambar to experience the taste.
